GROUP HOME
HP has two program sites located right next to each
other. The first site is the group home or as it is often
referred to as the main house. The second site is the
cooperative apartment
program.
The
group home is located in a historically significant mansard
Victorian. The founders purchased this building with their own
money specifically for the purpose of creating a new and
innovative program for veterans with psychiatric disabilities.
This house consists of four floors. The first and second floors
contain the single and double rooms occupied by the veterans, as
well as the common areas such as kitchen, dining room and living
room. The third floor consists of three apartments that house
the live-in staff and maintenance person. The basement has a
laundry room complete with washer and dryer, as well as, some
limited storage for household products.
In this environment residents are given support services by
live-in staff. Staff prepares and serves all meals family-style.
Additional supports are given in the areas of activities of
daily living (ADL) skills management, advocacy for treatment and
services outside the agency and supervision of self-medicating
residents. We must stress that we do not provide treatment. All
treatment is received outside of HP, but we do provide
re-enforcement and supervision in seeing that residents follow
the recommendation of their treatment teams.
