TAX DOLLARS SAVED
Habitat P.L.U.S. is the ONLY program in the state that serves
this targeted population.
Aside from the obvious social and humanitarian solutions our
program offers to the most disabled homeless veterans in the
state, we also save the government substantial tax dollars.
For example, we have a veteran who we will call John Doe. John
has been in our program for going on 11 years. We obtained all
of his medical records for the 10 years prior to placement at
Habitat and compared them to his medical records for the 10
years since his placement with Habitat. John had a total of 517
hospital days prior to placement with Habitat. According to
“cost recovery” figures provided to us by the Veterans
Administration, it costs $385.00 (average) a day for in-patient
care. This means that it cost the government $199,045.00 for
hospitalizations in John’s 10 years PRIOR to placement with
Habitat. In the 10 years since placement with Habitat, John has
had 77 hospital days, or a cost of $29,645.00…John is only 1 of
17 chronically disabled Veterans whom we serve. Aside from the
good work we do, the numbers speak for themselves…
