For over a hundred years General Electric has been a major part of the fabric of the City of Lynn in Massachusetts.  Over the past six years, the GE Veterans Council has partnered with Habitat PLUS, to improve the lives of our Veterans.

Each year, through grants made possible by GE Corporate and the GE Employee’s Good Neighbor Fund, The GE Veterans Council sponsors a two-day employee volunteer project.  The employees donate their time and skill to make improvements to the Veterans Main Residence and Cooperative Apartments.

They have replaced windows, built staircases, painted, landscaped, planting flowers and a vegetable garden and made many other repairs and upgrades to our Veterans home.  However, the most meaningful project was when GE Employees erected a flagpole for them.  It gives the Veterans such pride to be able to fly the flag and to lower it in honor of fallen fellow Veterans and first responders.

Additionally, each December the GE Employee’s Good Neighbor Fund sponsors the annual Habitat PLUS Christmas party.  The GE Employees see that Santa & Mrs. Claus attend as well, bearing gifts for all and arriving on a fire truck decked out with Christmas lights and music, upon a sleigh with nine reindeer.  This celebration gives the Habitat PLUS Veterans a chance to open their home to family and friends, and to host the GE Volunteers to say thank you for all their efforts on their behalf, throughout the year.  A joyous time is had by all!

Dick George of the 101st Airborne Division Association MA Home Base Chapter and Laurie Christiansen present Bernadette Forti & Susan Campbell, Co-Founders of Habitat PLUS, with an award for their decades of service to disabled Veterans.

Dick George put us in touch with a manufacturer, who produced our new Habitat PLUS patch with a rendering of the Veterans’ Main Residence.  Thanks Dick !  Our patch looks great!
